The Hybrid does what it is intended to do, deliver a go green feeling, save some gas and still allow you room for fun. EPA mileage numbers jump quite a bit for the Civic Hybrid, clocking in at 40/45 mpg. The Hybrid's power-plant combines a 20-hp electric motor with a 110-hp, 1.3-liter in-line-four engine. A CVT (continuously variable transmission), offered only in the Civic Hybrid, has been designed for smooth shifting. To conserve fuel, a stop/start feature shuts down the Hybrid's engine when the vehicle stops in traffic, and a similar fuel cut-off feature saves gas when the Hybrid decelerates. Regenerative braking recharges the Hybrid's battery. This technology is awesome. Safety features start with its Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, which has been designed to absorb and disperse crash energy in collisions with vehicles of differing sizes, protecting the occupants. Civics have a full range of airbags, including dual-stage front airbags and side curtain airbags, as well as standard ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution, which distributes braking force depending on how the vehicle is loaded for weight.
